Guta and Simon live in Kampala, Uganda. Bethlehem House has been able to provide food, shelter, clothing and medicine to these fine young men over the past few years. Guta is a fine dancer and enjoys strutting his skills any opportunity he gets. Meanwhile, little Simon is making a good effort to keep up with his brother. In the absence of any father figure, these two young men have adopted Brother Jeremiah as their Dad.
Below, we have Abbey and friends in the pic on the left (first pic below) and Bakary along with his two younger brothers Baxso and Badembo in the pic on the right (second pic below) wishing Brother Jeremiah a happy birthday.
Abbey is a bright young man from Lagos, Nigeria. He is very fond of animals and enjoys his bond with 2 parrots that we've named Romeo and Juliet along with a host of chicks, roosters and chickens. He is a deeply spiritual person who is very committed to his faith and prayer life - so much so that we call him "the little monk." Abbey graduated from secondary school in 2015 but was unable to pursue his dream of attending the University because his family was unable to afford the required school fees. In August of 2021, Bethlehem House was able to assist Abbey enroll into the University of Agriculture in Nigeria and secure funds needed for all school related as well as living expenses.
Bakary, Baxso and Badembo live in The Gambia in a city called Brikama. Upon losing their Mom in 2020, Bakary (the eldest of the 3 boys) took on the responsibility of looking out for his two younger brothers. Bakary dreams of establishing his very own clothing line with the brand name Brikama Confidential. He has a logo and designs ready to go. The only thing holding him back is the money required to invest in inventory. Meanwhile, Baxso is learning a tailoring skill. He wishes to be a fashion designer some day. And Badembo is being trained in masonry work. These 3 young brothers are ambitious, hard working and incredibly resilient. They have goals but lack the financial resources that will take their efforts to the next level. Bethlehem House has assisted these brothers with food over the past few years. More recently, we were able to provide the brothers a safe place to live as their former home was badly damaged in a fire.
"IT TAKES A VILLAGE" PROJECT"
Over the past several years, Bethlehem House Ministries and Philly4Good have established some meaningful bonds with and have unofficially "adopted" several young people from Africa who have no family support. We have taken these young people under our wings and have provided for their basic needs of food, shelter, medical expenses and education.
We have been doing this from our own means but the need has grown to where we require the support of others who will assist us in continuing to provide greatly needed help to these individuals who would otherwise go without these basic necessities.
Thereβs an African proverb that says, βit takes a village to raise a child.β We are now in desperate need of folks to step up and become a part of our βvillageβ so that we can continue the work that began a few years ago.
In May of 2021, a nonprofit organization called Bethlehem House Ministries was established. One of the goals of this ministry is to continue to provide food, shelter, medical care and opportunities for education to these amazing young people that we have grown to know and love.
Please consider pledging your support to this ministryβs mission. The word βBethlehemβ means βhouse of bread.β We humbly ask you to join Bethlehem House Ministries and Philly4Good in βbreaking the breadβ of love and kindness with these amazing young people!
Would you please consider supporting this most noble cause?
As Bethlehem House Ministries is a 501c3 charitable nonprofit organization, all donations to this project are tax-deductible. Your assistance is greatly needed and will be deeply appreciated!

- In 1990, 278 million people in Sub-saharan Africa lived in poverty. By 2015, that number had grown to 413 million, and itβs now approaching 440 million
- Hunger in Africa is also on the rise...two hundred fifty-six million Africans are hungry, an increase of 44 million since 2014
- A lack of access to clean water, shelter, and health care, little or no opportunity to go to school or learn a trade, constant fear for the future and increased risk of exploitation and abuse are a constant reality in African countries
Imagine not being able to provide enough food for your children or pay for a hospital visit when a child is sick or injured. Imagine the guilt, grief, and despair.
Imagine being a young person who has no parent or guardian who can provide the basic necessities of life. Imagine the fear and hopelessness. Corruption on the continent makes it very difficult to conquer the poverty numbers. With governments confiscating donations from abroad, local militias slaughtering villagers and cultural leaders denying women the right and safety to attend school, poverty perpetuates.
We may not be able to eradicate poverty or solve the many problems facing African countries today but if we can make a significant difference in the lives of a few young people what an accomplishment that would be. This is exactly what we strive after. The young people featured on this page are real individuals that we have been able to establish meaningful relationships with over the years. Our assistance has effected a significant change for the better in their lives and we need your help to continue to make this happen!
In the days and weeks ahead, we will feature the stories of these young people who will share with us, in their own words, how this ministry has changed their lives.
Stay tuned...
In this pic we find the fashionable Ifesinachi Obioha who lives in Lagos, Nigeria. Obioha has recently suffered the pain of losing both his mother and his brother in the span of one month. Hardships do not slow Obioha down. He has aquired skills as a fashion designer and is the proud owner of a cleaning business. Business is slow but Obioha continues to hustle every day trying to make good things happen. He is a devout Christian who seeks to serve God. In good times as well as in bad times, Obioha is always heard thanking God for all things. Bethlehem House has assisted Obioha with funds that enabled him to establish his present businesses.
Here is Martin aka Guta. He is one of the young folks we are proud to call our son. Guta has seen some very difficult days in his young life. After losing his Mom, Guta ended up homeless with no family support to turn toward. Bethlehem House connected with Guta back in 2019 and has helped him with food, shelter, medical attention, clothing as well as other necessities. Guta's dancing skills led him to meet a Swedish princess named Joy who also loves to dance. In 2021, Guta was able to secure a travel visa which enabled him to spend some time in Sweden with Joy while making other connections with other prominent dancers. Guta is hoping to leave Uganda someday soon and start a new life in Sweden. He is constantly expressing his deepest gratitude for how Bethlehem House has radically changed his life. His biggest aspiration is to one day visit the USA and meet the man that he calls his Abba (Daddy).

Muyis Abiodun Sonuga
Our illustrious and grateful University student!
You make us very proud, Abbey!
We are proud to announce that, with the help of Bethlehem House Ministries, our dear friend Abbey is now finishing up his second year of studies in the University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, Nigeria. It hasn't been easy but Abbey is a diligent student who works hard and loves to learn. He has great goals and ambitions. Abbey is determined to make good things happen for himself as well as for his loved ones. He is deeply grateful for all that Bethlehem House has done to help turn his life around.
Here is Muki with his charming smile. He also lives in Kampala, Uganda, where he daily struggles to move forward in life. Bethlehem House has assisted Muki with food, shelter and medical attention. Muki recently enrolled in a vocational training program where he is studying photography. This young man hustles every day looking for ways to earn his keep. Muki is very grateful for all that Bethlehem House has done to assist him along his daily journey through life.
Little man, Simon, hasnβt had an easy life. Guta has taken little Simon under his wing and treats him like a little brother. Their family life is complicated! It is our hope to be able to support Simon with the basics he needs, especially a good education, in order to be able to get ahead in life. Heβs a sweet little guy who has had a rough young life! Help us to help him!
It takes a village to raise a child, says the African proverb. We need good people like YOU to step up and help form the village needed to make the dreams, goals and aspirations of these fine young people a reality!
